Bandiagara and the villages on the Plateau (en)
|

Bandiagara is certainly under-rated in travel guidses. The market day (on mondays and fridays) e.g. is very diverse, beautiful and interesting here. There are two nice hotels here which are not "cheap" but absolutely welcome oasis after trekking through Dogon country, sand and dust. Picture Gallery |

* Hotels in Bandiagara: Certainly the first address a little bit outside of town is Kambary Cheval Blanc. A very special "round ball" architecture (see picrure) as well as a pleasant resturant, swimming pool and mini-golf make this place a real "resort". Located in the center (near the taxi stop) is the new Hotel de la Falaise. It is smaller but very clean and well maintained by the director "Papa Napo". There are small african guest houses which are much cheaper, but.... A bit outside of town is Hotel Togona, located about two kilometers on the road towards Mopti. * Starting point: Bandiagara is perfectly located for excursions to the Falaise and Dogon country. Cars can be hired/organized at the hotels. The prices have to be discussed (one day should not cost more than 50'000 CFA including drinver (gas extra). |

Villages on the Plateau de Bandiagara: These villages are just as scenic as those below the Falaise! Very nice are Niongono and Nando, or Songo, or Dourou and Benemato. Back to the itineries index |
